Larry Smith will fight to reduce our dependency on foreign oil and work
to promote solutions leading to our energy independence from countries, many of which are not the friend of the United States,
our way of life and our people. If Mr. Smith goes to Washington he will fight to:
Intensive
research and development investment in hybrid vehicles to expand these
technologies in automobiles and leveraging these new technologies to
transferability to trucks. Leveraging these technologies is essential to securing the economic
well being of our trucking commerce transportation sector and to lower CO2
emissions.
Eliminate
the tax breaks offered to big oil for not investing in domestic refining
capacity that intentionally restricts the margins of supply to inflate the
price working families and our businesses pay at the pump.
Require
testimony under order of US
Congressional subpoena under oath from US Oil executives to rule in or
rule out the existence of illegal and unethical economic practices. (US Senator Ted Stevens-R. Alaska, a warm and
cozy friend of big oil currently under investigation, refused to require
executives to testify under oath, despite the valiant and courageous
efforts by US Senator Barbara Boxer-D. California.) Larry Smith will work to continue to
force the issue of accountability of an oil industry that is working to
subvert the efforts to forge energy independence despite the economic and
national security interests of doing so.
The
Smith Hybrid Energy Incentive Act which will allow any consumer who
purchases a hybrid vehicle be permitted to
annually deduct the interest paid on the vehicle. Moreover, a standard $300 tax credit
will be issued to any purchase of hybrid vehicles. This will support accelerated return on
investment and pronounced continued direct investment in emerging hybrid
technologies.
Establish
USDOT and individual state DOT collaboration initiatives to promote expanded
investment in mass transit, including rail.
Eliminate
Federal Congressional earmarks that spend Federal Highway dollars on any
project that does not improve or create essential transportation
infrastructure.
Provide
for essential tax incentives for direct corporate investment in vehicles
that increase fuel efficiency and lower emissions standards on cars,
trucks and buses.
Provide
for investment in scientific and technological exploration of alternative
forms of safe and sustainable energy including wind, solar, biomass, safe
and clean coal and nuclear power.
These investments will create strategic exponential growth
of good paying jobs in planting and harvesting these technologies. Moreover, Larry Smith’s efforts to fight for these initiatives will also bring enhanced economic
productivity and reduced costs for our businesses.
